Frequently Asked Questions

For 2023-24

How are schools managing volunteers on campus?

We understand the benefit of volunteers supporting our programs and schools. Schools will permit visitors and volunteers who provide essential services and support to the school’s educational program.

What happens if a parent/caregiver sends a sick child to school?

Even students and adults who were feeling fine in the morning can become ill as the day goes on. Staff will be sent home immediately if they become symptomatic. Students will be isolated in a safe area to await immediate pick up by their parent/caregiver.

The California Department of Public Health's October 2023 guidance for when a child has symptoms of illness in child care or school apply. Table 1: Signs/Symptoms Requiring Emergency Care and Table 2: Guidance for Common Signs and Symptoms

What is the process for a classroom if a student tests positive?

The instructions for managing individuals with COVID-19 symptoms or diagnosis in our 2022-23 plan still apply, according to the California Department of Public Health.
Regarding notification: "When the school is notified of a positive case, the school will send a general notification, via ParentSquare, to families of students who may have shared air space with an individual who is confirmed positive for COVID-19."

Will there be instruction provided to students during an at-home quarantine?

If a student must stay home due to quarantine, please check with your child's teacher about assignments that may be possible to do at home.

Where do I find information about the COVID-19 testing at school?

At-school COVID-19 testing has concluded. Please use your own at-home test or seek testing from your healthcare provider. Testing information is also available from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department.
If you are in need of at home tests, please let the office staff know as there may be some extra tests in the health office.

Are at-home antigen test results accepted for returning to school after quarantine?

CDPH recommends that antigen tests be the primary option for detecting COVID-19 in schools, rather than PCR tests. Both the professional, on-site antigen tests as well as over-the-counter (OTC) at-home antigen tests have been effective in identifying persons who have infectious levels of all known variants of the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2).
As supplies are available, the school will provide an antigen test for each student.
